Yesteryear Collection

Though disabled by polio, Franklin Delano Roosevelt will always be remembered as the American president who roused a nation paralyzed by the Great Depression and led its people back to optimism and prosperity. A four-term president who dominated Washington for most of two decades, Roosevelt was the architect of the New Deal, which gave the country Social Security, the minimum wage, federally insured bank savings and the right to join unions. Roosevelt will also be long remembered for guiding the Allies to victory in World War II but, unfortunately, he died before he could celebrate the triumph of freedom over tyranny. Considered one of the greatest American presidents, Roosevelt's legacy was that he established the United States as the leader of the free world.

Not surprisingly, Roosevelt was selected as one of the great Americans who helped shaped the 20th century and who are honoured in the "Celebrate the Century" stamp series from the U.S. Postal Service.
The stamp that bears Roosevelt delivering one of his famous "fireside chats" on radio is recreated on the sides of a 1937 Dodge Airflow, a classic American vehicle introduced just as Roosevelt was completing his first term and getting ready for his second. This magnificent dei-cast model captures the gradually sloping profile of the Dodge Airflow, the curved hood and grille and the three-tone paint scheme. Bearing official graphics of the United States Postal Service, this die-cast model is produced by - and available only from - Matchbox Collectibles.
